Food Porn: Mey Lin Pot & Noodle House

Last father's day, most restaurants were jam packed with families. Good thing we passed by atrium and saw Mey Lin with available seats. My mom has never tried Mey Lin so she was a bit hesitant to go in, but we didn't have a choice anyway - read back first sentence.

1. Pork Spareribs (?)
I dislike spareribs in general so it's no surprise that I didn't like this one either. There's just too much fat, even my brother says so. I would prefer baby back ribs any time.

2. Clam soup
I like this halaan (that's how we call this dish at home.) The version that I'm used to is the one with plenty of ginger, but this is okay. It washes away the grease of the other food we ate.

3. Steamed mixed vegetables
This is probably the surprise of the day for me. I know I won't like the spare ribs or that I would like the halaan, but this... I expected this dish to be mediocre at best, but I was wrong. It tasted really good, I can smell the butter from every bite, but I can't taste it so it leaves me wanting more. And the vegetables are still crispy and fresh.

4. Satay noodles
So-so, but my father enjoyed it.

5. Crispy salted shrimp
Of course I liked this. HAHAHA I always like shrimp (or squid) with breading. It's the safest thing to order for me.

6. Seafood soup

7. Oyster in Tausi
I didn't enjoy this dish at all, I don't know, perhaps I just prefer oyster dipped in vineagar.

8. 4-Mushroom Noodles
Ughm, this dish is okay, but I prefer crispy noodles over these. We just ordered this because my dad wanted to try it.

I know it's late, but Happy Father's Day, papa!

Today, I figured out something very important: my mom likes cheap Chinese food in the Philippines, but hates authentic Chinese food in HongKong. I think she prefers Chinese food that has become so much of a staple in the Philippines that she actually thinks that these are Filipino food (e.g. Chowking, SuperBowl, Luk Yuen, Mey Lin). Does that makes sense? HAHAHA She also likes Filipino food from bar and grills (e.g. Gerry's, Dencio's, Buddy's, etc).

Yay! This will make our eating out a lot easier for me :) If you have any restaurants that you can suggest for my mom, please let me know. Thanks!

Arlet
